Princeton Council Ends ALPR Plans, Sets Tax Hearing

Princeton City Council used its September 8 special meeting to take action on automated license plate reader technology and on the process for a proposed property tax rate tied to the 2026-27 budget.

License Plate Camera Plan Shut Down

After discussion, council voted 5-1 to sunset the city’s automated license plate reader technology plans. Police said Princeton had no cameras currently installed. Staff said six fixed Vigilant cameras were being installed and were expected to be active by the end of September, and six temporary Flock cameras had arrived but were not installed. Residents raised privacy concerns, and several council members said the city should wait for more legal or policy guidance before moving ahead.
